Cerakote
What is Cerakote?
Cerakote is a ceramic polymer formulation that offers exceptional durability, hardness, scratch resistance, flexibility, heat and chemical resistance. It can be applied to most substrates including metal, plastics, polymers, composites, hydro graphics, and PVD. The oven cured H and Elite series are especially well suited for firearms, offering superior protection compared to other popular gun finishes.
What Cerakote Is Not
Cerakote is not an indestructible finish. While it is an extremely tough finish that will outlast most coating systems when applied correctly, Cerakote wears just like any other system. With that said, it has come out on top in 3rd-party testing numerous times when compared to many coating systems. Visit the Cerakote site to view the results of the performance tests that show just how durable it really can be.
You can expect a Cerakote finish on a firearm that is stored in a safe and used a couple of times per year to last a lifetime. In our experience, firearms that are used regularly or see rough usage in the field like daily carry pistols or competition guns can expect between one and five years before significant coating failure depending on the conditions and duration of use.
The durability of the substrate must also be considered. Applying Cerakote to softer materials like woods, plastics, and some composites can cause it to look like the coating failed, when in reality it was the substrate that did not survive contact.
